Work experience with Vero HR

Ellie recently joined us at the Vero HR office for two days’ work experience. Currently working in the care sector, Ellie has been thinking about a career change, with HR being a particular area of interest. As such, she found it beneficial to spend time within our various business areas, from HR administration and technology to recruitment and business development. Here’s Ellie’s personal account of her time with us.
– Mike Kealey, CEO
My name is Ellie-Mae, and this week I had the opportunity to complete two days of work experience at Vero HR’s head office. I’ve decided to write about my experience here to share with others who are unsure about what career to go into or if they want a career in HR.
When I arrived at Vero HR, I was warmly welcomed. I was first introduced to Mike Kealey, who is the CEO of Vero HR. Mike took me into a meeting room, and we spoke about myself and his work. Mike then talked me through all the HR services that Vero has to offer. This ranged from recruitment to payroll and even legal. Vero has many opportunities to choose and learn from.
My day was filled with meeting different people from each of the services Vero offers. I was involved with the day of the lives of each service, which meant I was able to understand what a ‘typical day’ is working in the roles. My first experience was with the HR admin team. I spoke with Belinda, the HR Admin Team Leader. Belinda gave me an introduction of the role and talked me through what a usual day for her is. Belinda highlighted the fact that the most important role of this job was making sure to build a good relationship with clients and attention to detail, as your day is spent reporting documents and assisting in making new profiles.
I also spent some time with Kayleigh, who is a Senior HR Assistant. I watched Kayleigh complete new employee files and accounts for the clients. Kayleigh talked me through all of this and made sure I was involved and understood what was happening.
I then joined Ana, who is a Payroll Manager. Ana showed me the importance of her job and what her job entails. Personally, I found this part of HR more difficult to understand, as payroll is very in-depth and organised. There are challenges in this role to complete, however, the payroll team work very closely together to resolve. I learnt that payroll, admin and HR Managers work very closely together as they are all linked.
On my final day, I sat down with the recruitment team. I found this very interesting as the main purpose of the role is to create a good relationship with clients and build trust. I learnt that clients trust the recruitment team and allow them to freely find a candidate that meets their expectations. The recruitment team works hard, going back and forth with clients to discuss their ideal candidate, researching potential candidates, and creating job adverts. Recruitment works closely with both candidates and clients to make sure information is being passed on. I really enjoyed learning about this.
Overall, my experience with Vero HR has been great. I have gained a much deeper understanding of HR and learnt about the day-to-day roles. My advice to those looking to go into HR is to do it and be confident. You learn something new everyday and always have people around you who can support with any enquires you have or anything you’re unsure of. Thank you, Vero HR, for allowing me to come visit and gain experience in these roles.
